Obsession

I have a confession…. I am officially obsessed with Mamma Mia. This obsession started about 2 weeks ago. My mom and I made a date night to go see Mamma Mia, because you have to see Mamma Mia with your mom, it’s just a given. Well we went and I loved it.

A few days later my friend Erin called and said, “You wanta see Mamma Mia,” and I said, “of course!” So we went for a girls night on Tuesday, and once again, I loved it!

I have woken up the last few nights singing “Honey, Honey” and “Super Trouper” in my head and all my dreams somehow seem to relate to Mamma Mia (maybe this is a sign that I need to get a life).

Then my sweet husband (after a lot of hinting, by me) went out and bought me the soundtrack. It has been playing nonstop at my house ever since. Brooklynn loves it. We have been dancing all over the kitchen to it. She laughs and jumps in circles. She is quite the dancer for an 18 month old, much better then her mother.

So there is my confession. I am afraid that this obsession may go on for a while. So apologize now to anyone who ends up stuck in my car or at my house and is subjected to the soundtrack or my own singing voice. I also have a feeling that when this show is released on DVD in a few months I may just have to camp out at Target, J/K, I am not that obsessed (or at least not yet!)

The Declaration Of Independence

Last weekend, our family was able to experience a small part of American History. Saturday morning we woke up early and took a trip to the Utah State Capital to see an original copy of the Declaration of Independence.

There are only 25 of these copies left today. They were printed the night of July 4, 1776 and then spread through the area to announce to Washington’s Troops that America was now it’s own country.

We waited about an 1 1/2 hours to have a quick glimpse at this amazing document and to have our picture taken in front of it. Those who came later in the day were told to plan on at least a 3 hour wait. Brooklynn did absolutely amazing while we were waiting.

When we finally got our turn to view the document, we realized just how valuable and important this was to our country. It was guarded by security guards, and everyone was watching every move we made, making sure we did not harm the document. They also banned all flash photography, so not to harm the paper.

W also learned an interesting fact while waiting in line. “There is writing on the back of the Declaration of Independence but it is not invisible or a map, as the movie ‘National Treasure’ suggests. The writing on the back reads ‘Original Declaration of Independence, dated 4th July 1776,’ and appears on the bottom of the document, upside down.”

Josh and I have always wanted to go to Washington D.C. but plan on waiting until our family is old enough to appreciate it. So it was nice to have a chance to experience some of our country’s history right here at home.

The Debate is Over!!!

I have seen this “Look-alike Meter” on several of my friends blogs lately. I was reading my friend Erin’s blog tonight and she had just done it for her kids. I decided it was time for me to find out the truth about my child!

I am sure this is the same with every child, but from the time Brooke was born, we have heard several arguments about which one of us she looks most like.  If you have been one of those debators, here is your answer!!

So there you have it. Although I really don’t think 5% is enough to claim that she completely looks like me, so all of you rooting for Josh, I think it’s safe to say she still looks a lot like him too.

Growing So Fast

Today Brooke had her 18 month check up, and I am proud to announce that she is a healthy growing child. She is now 24 lbs, putting her in the 45 percentile. This is very exciting, because when she was born she was in the 7th percentile, but we have slowly chunked her up. She is also in the 86 percentile on height, measuring in at 33.1 inches. Only 2 more inches and she can ride the Matternhorn at Disneyland!!!

She luckily only had to have one shot this time (last time she had five). She handled the shot pretty good, just let out a little scream, but then they did the unthinkable and put a band-aid on her. Yes, I realize as her mother, I should have been paying attention and stopped them. Brooke is not a fan of band-aids and never has been. So as soon as she saw the nurse put the band-aid on her leg, tears just started flowing. It only stayed on for about 2 seconds before Brooke ripped it off, and then all was OK.

So other then the band-aid issue, all went pretty well. The Doctor assured me it was OK if Brooke only eats Hot Dogs and Cheese for awhile. She also commented on the fact that it’s easy to see that Brooke is extremely strong-willed and bubbling over with personality. She told me to plan on Brooke being a handful for the next few years and probably more so then other children, but that someday it will all be worth the extra work. I think that was her way of saying that Brooke is a little stubborn and hyper, but those are two of the many things we love about her.

18 Months!!!

Today Brooklynn is 18 months old. It’s crazy how fast she is growing up. She is such an adventurous little spirit, who lets nothing get in her way. To celebrate her 18 months, I thought I would share 18 fun little facts about our Brooky.

1. Her favorite food is cheese.

2. She loves to brush her teeth.

3. She loves wearing her sunglasses.

4. She loves shoes. It doesn’t matter whose shoes they are, if they are out, she is going to wear them.

5. She loves playing in water, whether it’s bath time, the splash park, playing in her pool, playing in the rain, or even just washing her hands.

6. She loves to talk on her fake phones. She can turn anything into a phone.

7. Loves chasing the cat around the house.

8. Is excellent at pretending to play Rock Band with Daddy.

9. She is scared of her new twin cousins, and tortoises.

10. Her favorite movie is “Enchanted.”

11. Her favorite show is a toss up between “Super Why” and “Little Einstein’s.”

12. She is a complete Daddy’s girl (which I think is wonderful).

13. She is a giggler. When she starts giggling, it just keeps going.

14. She loves people. She makes friends everywhere we go.

15. She loves books. She is not so much into us reading to her, she mostly likes looking at the books, and talking about the different pictures.

16. She is a chatter-box. She can just talk and talk all day. We go for rides and she sits in the back seat just chatting away.

17.  She is an outdoors girl. She loves going outside, and is always so sad when it’s time to come in.

18. She loves giving hugs and kisses.

Wet Day At The Zoo!

When it rains, most smart parents say “let’s stay inside and play today.” Unfortunately for Brook her parents aren’t that smart.

When Josh and I first got married, we lived just a few minutes from both of the Cottonwood Canyons. We would see the storm clouds roll in, jump in the Bronco and head up to the mountains. For some reason we have always loved playing in the rain. There is something about the smell of rain, the sound of it, and getting wet that always makes things better.

This morning when I woke up, I thought today would be a fun day for the Zoo. Due to staying up too late playing with Grandma and Grandpa the last two nights, Brooklynn decided to sleep in. So I went outside to work in the yard for a little bit. I was only out there for a few minutes before it started to rain. That’s when I knew we were definitely going to the Zoo today.

So I packed up the umbrella, and we were off!

Brooklynn was not a huge fan of me hooking the umberella to her stroller, but she survived!

It actually didn’t rain too much on us, just enough to wake up all the animals and get them excited. I am a big believer that you never waste your time on a hot summer day to go to the zoo. The animals are too tired, it’s crowded, and it’s just too hot. I am also a big believer that you never go to Disneyland during the summer, it’s just a waste of money and time to stand in long lines in the hot sun (but that’s another saga).

Anyways, it was fun to see so many animals playing around outside enjoying the cool weather. I love taking Brook to the Zoo, because she gets more interested and excited about the animals each time we go! This time she was very excited about the monkeys as usual (those have always been her favorite). She also got really excited about the giraffes, especially the baby giraffe and she really liked the penguins. This is one of the first times we’ve seen them out playing.

Links

In case you have not noticed, we added some links to the bottom right hand side of the page. These links are there to entertain you when you get bored from reading our blog. The Duck Hunt link is a Flash recreation of the original Nintendo game “Duck Hunt” that Josh made a while back.  The second link I can has cheezburger? is a site for all you cat lovers. Josh showed this to me about a year ago, and now I check it daily just for a laugh! Enjoy!!!

Yeah for Nursery!!!

Today was Brooklynn’s first full day in nursery all by herself. She isn’t officially old enough until next week, but because she has become impossible to handle during church the last couple of months, we asked the Sister who is over the nursery if we could start bringing her a little early just to get her used to it. Being the sweet person that she is, she said yes. So we have actually been hanging out in nursery for about 3 weeks now, but Brooke has always had me in there with her.

Today when I took her into nursery, I was planning to stay with her the whole time since she is not officially their responsibility yet, but the teacher told me I could just leave her since she has been doing so well. So that’s what we did. Although for the first ten minutes, Josh and I stood outside the nursery to listen for any possible screams or tantrums, but there were none from her. We peaked in a few times through the window in the door. We saw her playing with the dollhouse and two little boys. Then later we peaked in again and she was sitting on a box next to another boy looking at a book.

For the most part I think she did very well for her first day. Josh and I especially loved being able to go to classes again without trying to keep her quiet and entertained.

Yeah for nursery!!!!!!
