Our New Hobby!
A few months ago, Josh came to me and said “Let’s take ice skating lessons.” Being the attentive wife I am I said “sure whatever.” The next thing I knew, Josh had signed us up for classes and arranged babysitters for each night. That’s when I realized he was serious.
A while back Josh decided that he wanted to play hockey. It’s something that he has always wanted to do, but unfortunately it is an expensive sport (especially for children who grow out of gear every 6 months) and it’s hard to find a place to just go play, it’s not like there are ice rinks around every corner. He hoped to try to play in HS until he found out WJ really didn’t have a team. Due to all these factors, he has never got a chance to play much other then roller hockey.
Well this turned out to be the reasoning behind the desire to take ice skating lessons. Unfortunately, what he did not realize when he signed us up, it wasn’t just a “learn to skate” class, it was a “learn to figure skate” class. Needless to say, Josh was the only guy in the class, but he was the best (you should see his sashay!) I think the instructor was so excited to have a married couple in the class, especially with a man that was so good, that they tried to talk us into continuing classes so that we could compete in adult pair skating competitions. I don’t think they actually thought we would be good, they just wanted us to keep paying money for lessons. Anyways, we had a blast doing it, and it was a great excuse for two date nights each week while we were at class.
Our classes have long been over, but we have tried to keep going on a regular basis, partially because Josh is getting ready to start playing hockey and wants the extra practice, and partially because it’s a fun activity together.
