Last week we celebrated Brooklynn’s third birthday. It is amazing to me how fast she is growing. She is such a special and unique child that has won our hearts over time and again. I just want to take this opportunity and share with you some of the things that make her, her!
Brooklynn wakes up every morning at 8:30am on the dot with a huge smile on her face.
She loves backpacks, boots, slippers, socks and sunglasses. If she could wear them all the time she would.
Her favorite toys are Little People. She has a huge collection of them and we can’t leave the house with out a backpack full of them.
She loves Dora, Sponge Bob Square Pants, Mickey Mouse, and anything with princess’s.
She is a girly girl with a side of tom boy.
She has her own play tool set that she insists on using whenever Daddy has his tools out.
She loves to dance and sing and insists that we join in the fun.
She absolutely hates being dirty, although she does love to play in the dirt.
She loves, loves, loves stickers!
She loves all of her cousins and grandparents and talks about them daily.
Her favorite foods are, hot dogs, cheese, yogurt, and anything she can put ketchup on. (Which to her, is pretty much everything – including Captain Crunch.)
She loves talking on the phone.
Whenever we are at the dinner table we always have to do “cheers” (tapping the glasses together).
We have our own secret family hand shake that she insists on doing several times a day. The hand shake is a mixture of high fives, thumbs up, rocks, and hands in.
Her favorite day of the week is Thursday, because it’s “School Day.”
She loves her baby sister “Sinana” (her name for Sienna).
She loves to show off her little sister to everyone she meets.
She is always looking for an adventure whether it is scaling the backside of the banister at Grandma and Grandpa Buhler’s, jumping as high as she can on the bed, or setting off the fire alarm at the movie theater. However don’t even think about putting her on an amusement park ride or she’ll scream like 15 little girls all in one.
If you ask what my name is (Cindy) she’ll tell you it’s “mommy.” If she hear’s someone call me Cindy, she’ll correct them and tell them that I am mommy.
If you ask what daddy’s name is, she’ll tell you it’s “Josh.”
If you ask what her name is, she’ll tell you “It’s me, Brookey!”
Nicknames for her include, Brookey, Brookey Brew, B, Bumble Bee, and Princess.
She loves to be the center of attention.
She is the most stubborn, strong-willed, child I have ever known.
She loves to be a part of everything and there is nothing that she misses out on.
She always has a plan and don’t even think about getting in her way.
We love our Brooklynn. She is such an amazing little girl. She brightens each day of our lives with her smile, her laughter, and her sweet spirit. We love her so much and we are so glad she is a part of our family.
Tonight, on the way home from my parents house, we were driving by the Oquirrh Mountain Temple. I pointed to it and told Brooklynn, “Look at the pretty Temple.” She quickly replied, “No Temple, that’s the pretty castle.” I responded back to her, “No honey, that’s not a castle, that’s a temple.” She then replied back to me, “No, that’s the pretty castle where all the princesses live.”
Apparently we need to spend a little more time talking about Temples at our house, and a little less time talking about castles!

Finally after about 3 years of having the same model of cell phone, I finally learned how to download pictures from my phone to the computer, with the help of Josh. Some of my favorite pictures have been stuck there and every time I look at them, I just cross my fingers hoping that my phone will last long enough for me to figure out how to retrieve them. Since I have been known in the past to send my phone through the wash or leave it on top of the car as I drive down the freeway, this was a real concern. Finally the pictures are securely on the computer, so I thought I would share one of my favorites. If you are lucky and I am ambitious I’ll add a few more in the next few days!
Enjoy
This past week, being at the very end of this pregnancy, has been a little tiring, mentally, physically, and emotionally for me. Apparently, this has become visible to Brooke and being the sweet little girl she is, she tries to comfort me. Everyday this week, about an hour before Josh comes walking through the door, she comes to me with her sweet little voice and says “Don’t worry mommy, daddy soon!” I love how grown up and sweet she is becoming each day. I am so grateful to have her as my daughter. I know she is going to make a wonderful big sister to this new little baby.
I know it has been months since I last did a picture of the week, and I can’t promise I will get back on that wagon anytime soon, but this one just makes me laugh.
Last Sunday morning Josh and I came out to the kitchen to find this; Brooklynn kicked back at the breakfast table, looking at the new toy ad.
I love this kid. She makes us laugh every day!
A
bout a week before Halloween, I was feeling a little sad. Normally Halloween is one of the biggest holidays of the year at our house, but due to constant sickness between Josh and Brooke throughout the month of October and me being 8 months pregnant, there just wasn’t much Halloween excitement here.
Luckily the last week of October made up for it, and we actually had a really good Halloween this year. We may not have done as much as we normally would do, but I also don’t feel like we really missed out on anything either.
We started off with a Halloween party with my family. Unfortunately Josh was still sick, so he missed this one, but Brooke and I had a blast. The kids came all dressed in their costumes, my Mom cooked her amazing Chili, and we let the kids decorate pumpkins with stickers, markers and pipe cleaner.
* I love that Tinkerbell is bigger then the Pirates!
Next was Brooke’s Halloween Carnival at her school. Have I said before how much I love her preschool, because I do! They had all sorts of cute little games and activities set up for the kids, where they could win either prizes or candy. They had doughnuts and rootbeer for the whole family. Brooke came home with a huge bag of goodies that she carried around for days.
Then, we had trick-or-treating at Josh’s office. I love that he works for a company that is so family oriented.

Finally, Halloween arrived and she had her first actual door-to-door trick-or-treating adventure. Josh only took her to maybe fifteen houses, but she is addicted. The only way we could get her to come home was by promising to take her trick-or-treating to her grandparents!
The fun is now over, but she is constantly carrying her candy around trying to share it with everyone, not really eating any of it herself (I am sure this will change next year). Every now and then she brings me her pumpkin bucket and says “Trick-or-treat” hoping I just might put some candy in there!

Apparently Brooke was born in the wrong decade. The inner 80’s girl inside her has broken lose this last week. She has become obsessed with socks and how many socks she can wear at one time. She’ll wear one or two pairs on her hands, and as many on her feet as she can make fit. It definitely as been entertaining as we go out, because of the different looks and comments that we get. But she is happy and thinks it looks great, and that’s what matters!
Last Thursday, Brooke had her first day of preschool. Her preschool is a very casual preschool that only goes once a week for an hour and a half, which is probably the perfect amount of time for a two year old.
As we were getting ready that morning, I convinced her to let me take a few pictures of her. The first one she insisted on holding her airplane.

Then I finally convinced her to do a traditional school picture with her backpack.

I was a little concerned at how she was going to handle this new adventure. She started the morning out a little moody, and 10 minutes before walking out the door, we had a severe meltdown because she could not find her “Marty” (a toy zebra). Luckily we were able to find “Marty”, along with all the other toys she insisted on taking in her backpack (it’s a good thing the backpack is more of an accessory then a necessity in preschool).
When we found her class room, she hung onto my leg for maybe 30 seconds until she spotted the toys, and then she forgot I was even there. I was able to sneak away and have the most wonderful hour and a half of complete freedom all to my self. It was wonderful, I think I am really going to enjoy this preschool thing, at least until the baby comes and ends my alone time.
When it was finally time to pick her up, I thought for sure it would be the same as nursery. As soon as she see’s us, she runs to us, gives us a great big hug, grabs a hand, and off we go. This time I walk in the room, she looks up, runs half way to me, pauses, turns around, and starts saying “I don’t want to go home” and then the flood works began. The teachers just looked at me in shock, and I am thinking great they probably think I am a horrible mom that Brooke is scared of. I finally convinced her we needed to go. She pouted the whole way to the car and for the next 30 minutes because she wanted to go back to school.
I just hope in 10 years, she’ll love school as much as she does now!
For the last six months, Brooke has been taking a gymnastics class at the Little Gym. Today was her last day, so I thought I would post some pictures.

Here she is with Ms. Lila doing a version of a front hand spring.
We are sad to be done with gymnastics for now, but luckily we can still participate in the “Parent Survival Nights” so Brooke can still go play once in awhile, and Josh and I can go play without her. Yay for us!!!!
We are taking at least this next semester off, just to make things less complicated when we have the baby and also because she will be starting preschool once a week and possibly a singing class once a week as well. So hopefully she will like those as much as she loved gymnastics!
